What the application is
Improved attendance and work-log reporting within a six-campus HR system, giving employees a more practical way to record attendance and supervisors clearer information to review.
Who it was built for
Southern Leyte State University, across six campuses
My role
Assistant programmer responsible for improving attendance capture, cross-device reliability, identity checks, and work-log reporting
The problem
Paper-based employee records and separate attendance processes made it difficult to monitor staffing, leave, attendance, and performance across campuses.
What I learned from the existing workflow
- Employees record attendance while human-resource teams and supervisors review staffing information.
- Data comes from profiles, attendance logs, work logs, leave requests, vacancies, and contracts.
- Separate paper records and campus-level processes made timely institution-wide monitoring difficult.
- Attendance had to work on more than one kind of device and remain practical at selected campus locations.
The solution
I developed attendance as a connected part of the employee record rather than a separate tool. The workflow supported the equipment available across campuses, confirmed identity at selected locations, and converted raw work logs into summaries supervisors could review more quickly.
Key decisions
- Build attendance as a connected subsystem Attendance information remains part of the employee record instead of becoming another isolated tool.
- Support more than one device The workflow accommodates the different equipment available across campuses.
- Turn logs into readable summaries Managers can see patterns without reading every raw entry.
Result
Connected attendance to the wider employee record, supported identity checks at selected locations, and gave supervisors clearer summaries of employee work logs across available devices.
What I learned
Adding one feature to a large institutional system means understanding the records and decisions around it. Attendance is not just a clock-in screen; it affects reporting, trust, and employee support.
