What the application is

Leading the development of a digital inspection platform still in progress, using client meetings and product walkthroughs to understand the industry and define what a successful inspection workflow should look like.

The problem

Field inspections, data collection, and review still needed a clearer digital path, and the product had to be shaped around how the industry actually works rather than assumed requirements.

What I learned from the existing workflow

  • Field teams need a consistent way to record inspections, while reviewers need to assess and manage the results.
  • Inspection data has to be captured in a standard form so later review is possible.
  • Unclear industry expectations can send development toward the wrong definition of success.
  • The product is still taking shape, so client reactions to the current software are part of the design process.

The solution

I lead the development work and the client conversations around it. I present the current software, listen for concerns, and use those discussions to understand the inspection process well enough to aim the next work at what success would actually look like for the people using it.

Key decisions

  1. Lead with discovery, not assumptions Client meetings and industry context decide the direction before the next feature is treated as settled.
  2. Present unfinished work on purpose Showing the current software is how concerns surface early enough to change the path.
  3. Define success with the client The useful product is the one that matches how inspections are actually recorded, reviewed, and managed.

Result

The product is still in development. Work so far has focused on understanding the inspection process, presenting the current software to the client, and steering development toward the outcomes that would make the platform useful in the field.

What I learned

Leading a product still in development means spending as much time understanding the industry and the client's definition of success as writing the next feature. Presenting unfinished work is part of finding the right direction.
